Dear KYSHAPE Members, We have great news to share—thanks to your advocacy and outreach, we achieved significant victories for physical education and physical activity in Kentucky schools! ✅ SB 68 Amended to Restore PE & PA ReportingThe House Committee Substitute 1 reinstated the requirement for schools to report on student physical education and physical activity in KRS 160.345. This ensures that PE and PA remain a priority at the local level, helping schools maintain accountability and continue efforts to improve student health. The amendment passed both the House and Senate, securing a major win for student wellness. The following link is the record of SB 68, it now awaits the signature of Governor Beshear: https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/record/25rs/sb68.html#HCS1 ✅ HB 301 Stalled – No Exemptions for PEYour advocacy also played a critical role in preventing HB 301 from advancing. This bill, which proposed allowing exemptions from physical education, was never called to committee for consideration. Because of your efforts, we successfully protected PE requirements and ensured that all Kentucky students continue to receive the benefits of physical education. 🗓 Where We Are in the Legislative SessionThe 2025 Kentucky legislative session has now entered the veto period, with only a few remaining days reserved for potential veto overrides before the session adjourns sine die. While these victories mark significant progress, we must remain vigilant in our advocacy efforts to ensure these policies remain in place and continue strengthening PE and PA across the state. 📢 What’s Next? Thank Your Legislators! Now that SB 68 has passed with critical improvements and HB 301 has stalled, we encourage you to take a moment to thank your legislators for their support in prioritizing PE and PA.
